Running Camps

Northwoods Running offers seasonal running camps for those wishing to test their mettle and improve their familiarity with the Superior 100 and 50-mile race course.

Group runs of your choosing will also be considered. Just let us know!

July 2025 - First 50 Miles - Women Only

This female-only camp provides a safe and fun atmosphere for women to meet and run together.

The first 50 miles of the Superior 100 race are covered over the course of three days. Jeff's wife Amy is present and helps with drop off/pick up and resupply as needed. In 2024, this camp was held on July 12-14.

July 2025 - First 50 Miles - Coed

Men and women are welcome for this three-day camp and cover the first 50 miles of the Superior 100 race course. You choose who you want to run with and how fast you want to go. In 2024, this camp was held on July 19-21.

August 2025 - Second 50 Miles - Coed

This 3-day camp is designed to be a final long-run prep for the Superior 100 race and covers the last 50-mile section of the race. Runners arrive Thursday night or Friday morning and run from Finland to Sugarloaf aid station (21+ miles) on Friday, Sugarloaf to Oberg aid station (23+ miles) on Saturday, and the last section to Caribou Highlands (7 miles) on Sunday. In 2024, this camp was held the first weekend in August.

First 50-mile running schedule

Runners for the July camps arrive on Thursday night or Friday morning and run from Gooseberry Park to Beaver Bay aid station (about 20 miles.) Saturday, camp participants run from Beaver Bay to County Road 6 aid station (24+ miles.) Sunday is from County Road 6 to Finland (about 8 miles.) Camp participants are grouped by speed, and Jeff brings up the rear, so no runner is left behind.

Trailhead transportation

Vehicles are left at the exit point for the various speed groups, and everyone rides to the starting point and starts at the same time. Water drops are left at various points along the route for resupply.

Group meals and fun!

Camp participants get together after the day's run to eat, discuss what they learned, ask questions and plan logistics for the next day.
